Labels and Forms:

Creating and Managing Labels and Forms Directly in SAP ERP

As component supplier in the automotive industry, you must fit good deliveries with labels, also called material tags, which must be designed and labeled according to the requirements of the customer. If these so-called material tags or labels do not meet the specifications precisely, financial penalties may be incurred, which could add up to significant costs.

Transferring Knowledge Early to Customers

As member of the German Automobile Industry Association (VDA), WSW Software is playing a large part in the development and design of labels and transfers the knowledge to the customers – providing additional added value and competitive advantage.

Correct Labeling as Competitive Factor

Complete and correct labeling of material tags is thus a competitive factor not to be underestimated. However, labeling labels and forms is not easy for automotive suppliers:

  • Due to individual delivery processes, every automotive manufacturer (OEM) uses different standards with respect to size, layout, barcodes, and text content of their material tags. Different plants of the same manufacturer may also have different requirements with respect to the information, labels and forms must contain.
  • Within the scope of a JIS release order or forecast delivery schedule, the OEMs often transmit additional data, which should also appear on the material tags, for example, in connection with the Release Authorization Number (RAN). Furthermore, transport labels, which are affixed to packages, must often feature a license plate number including a 2D data matrix code to enable unique identification.

As the SAP ERP standard functions do not or only insufficiently map such complex requirements on labeling and printing of material tags, component suppliers often use in-house programming or a third-party software. This is cumbersome and impacts efficiency, as the certification of labels and forms by the OEM already involves high costs.

More than 250 Labels and Forms "Out of the Box"

This is, where WSW Software can help: Our special OEM solutions that are stored in SPEEDI and integrated seamlessly into SAP ERP, provide "out-of-the-box" custom OEM processes, including the required labels and forms – currently more than 250 – and the respective print programs. The individual material tags are stored as standard in the proven SPEEDI Label Engine. The advantages are clear:

  • Material tag labeling and printing can be consistently realized in SAP ERP, as the OEM solutions route all information from an EDI forecast delivery schedule including any additional data automatically through the SAP system – from forecast delivery schedule entry up to label or form printing.
  • The labels and forms can be directly used and must not be individually created and managed in SAP ERP, this saves time and costs.
  • The labels and forms stored in the OEM solutions have been practically proven numerous times and are usually already certified by the manufacturers.
  • The SPEEDI Label Engine ensures high performance and great transparency during label assignment to the respective ship-to-party.
