SAP-integrated consignment processing
Vishay increases process efficiency with SPEEDI VMI
The SAP standard does not allow the consignment processes to be mapped automatically in the system. The company therefore opted for the VMI solution from the SAP-based add-on SPEEDI.
. The solution calculates the optimal shipping quantity, schedules it automatically in SAP and takes into account individual agreements regarding minimum or maximum stock and range, preview quantities or inventory data.
Vishay Intertechnology
With 22,800 employees in 22 countries and $3.2 billion in sales, Vishay Intertechnology (Malvern, PA, USA) is one of the leading manufacturers of discrete semiconductors and passive components. Its portfolio includes resistors, inductors, capacitors, diodes, MOSFETs, power ICs and optoelectronics - all important components that do their work invisibly in the background. You could find Vishay's products in almost any electrical device - from small to room-filling - from smartphones, computers, cars to industrial equipment.
50 billion components, 2,600 customers, 20,000 delivery schedules - complex consignment delivery processes
Vishay produces about 50 billion components annually. Its approximately 2,600 customers are spread across 140 countries. Around 20,000 scheduling agreements are anchored in SAP ERP. Products that are manufactured in large series are usually delivered to customers via consignment with Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) or Customer Managed Inventory (CMI). The logistics processes are correspondingly complex. Depending on the location, processing takes place at the relevant Vishay Consignment Center in Germany, France, Asia or the USA.
Melanie Kramer, Senior Manager SAP SD at Vishay Semiconductor GmbH in Heilbronn, Germany
"Before we SPEEDI there was no uniform process. We had withdrawal figures, but not the correct demand figures. Calculating when to produce, replenish and ship was done manually, and that was quite laborious and highly error-prone."
Up to 80,000 IDoc messages per week - as reliable as Swiss clockwork
Today, the SPEEDI-solution at Vishay processes between 70,000 and 80,000 IDoc messages per week.
VMI customers generally transmit their stock withdrawals once or twice a week. Based on the gross withdrawal forwarded by the customer SPEEDI calculates the actual net replenishment quantity and at the same time calculates when and in what batch size parts are to be produced and when they are to be delivered to the customer.
The CMI process also runs via SPEEDI - In contrast to the VMI process, the replenishment calculation is omitted here.
