JIS processes reliably automated
Eissmann solves JIS processes with LOJISITX
The Eissmann Group Automotive, headquartered in Bad Urach, is a global supplier of vehicle interior components for almost all well-known car manufacturers and suppliers. The product portfolio ranges from trim components such as center consoles, instrument panels, armrests, door panels, seat back shells and driver airbags to gearshift handles, selector levers and trim systems. The company was founded in 1964 and today has an international presence with around 5,000 employees at 17 different locations.
Eissmann maps its core business processes, which are divided into Order to Cash, Purchase to Pay and Report to Record, in SAP ERP ECC 6.0, which is based on a
SAP HANA database running. Ten years ago, the automotive supplier decided that business-critical applications, such as sequencing, had to run independently of the main SAP ERP system.
The IT solution LOJISTIX from WSW Software, which also fulfilled two other Eissmann requirements, was chosen to automate the JIS processes: LOJISTIX is highly configurable and can be used for a wide variety of automotive manufacturers. LOJISTIX is used for JIS processing with Porsche at the Eissmann plants in Gera and Stříbro, Czech Republic.
Current: LOJISTIX for JIS processing with international seat manufacturer
Thanks to a high degree of automation, Eissmann has developed into a one-stop store for seat components in the trim area. With its own strategic seat component plant in Bor, Czech Republic, a wide range of requirements can be met, including for seat backrests. For example, seat back shells are manufactured and delivered there for a global manufacturer of automotive seats. At the beginning of 2022, Eissmann received the order to supply the seat back shells to this customer using the just-in-sequence process.
The process: 600 back shells are produced, laminated and assembled by Eissmann in two shifts every day. They are then delivered in sequence to the customer's plant on the assembly lines. There, the shells are further processed into complete seat systems and ultimately find their place in the car manufacturer's plant.
Conversion from single-variety to JIS - LOJISTIX introduction as an agile project
"The changeover from single-variety to JIS delivery presented us with major challenges. The customer's plant had been newly built. Although there was a rough changeover schedule, many process details had not yet been worked out at the start. This concerned, for example, the number of sequences, packaging management or the assignment of part numbers. In addition, the deadlines were ambitious," says Helmuth Hummel, SAP Inhouse Consultant, IT & Business Services at the Eissmann Group.
Eissmann and WSW therefore decided to introduce the LOJISTIX IT solution as an agile project. The approach proved to be good and correct. Changes and new customer requirements were implemented flexibly and quickly. Within five months, all JIS processes between Eissmann and its customer were fully mapped in LOJISTIX. Data exchange between SAP ERP and LOJISTIX is handled by the LOJISTIX SAP Integration Package. The go-live took place in September 2022.
