Eurofit/Moselle cycle system
Retreading of just-in-sequence (JIS) series delivery
LOJISTIX® replaces legacy system, fully integrated with SAP, highest order transparency, PLC connection
Eurofit Group
The Eurofit Group has been an international partner in tire fitting for the world's largest car manufacturers since 1996. The group is a joint venture between Michelin and Continental, based in Belgium. With 1,200 employees in 18 plants in Europe, Africa and Asia, the Eurofit Group delivers high-quality and reliable tire-wheel assemblies (TWAs) and services in just-in-time (JIT) and just-in-sequence (JIS) processes. In 2019 alone, 25.8 million TWAs left the company's plants. Reliable logistics processes are essential for Eurofit.
JIS legacy system put to the test
The Eurofit Group assembles complete wheels in series at the Radsystem Mosel plant for the VW plant in Zwickau (Golf, since 2019 also ID.3) and the VW plant in Dresden (e-Golf).
The wheel sets are picked and assigned differently depending on the VW model. Furthermore, the trucks are loaded separately: An internal plant truck serves the VW plant in Zwickau, an external one the VW plant in Dresden.
JIS delivery to customers has already been implemented for many years - IT-supported by a JIS system that has been frequently adapted in recent years. In the course of the new introduction of SAP ERP, it came under scrutiny.
Matthieu Garandeau, Head of Logistics and IT at Eurofit:
"The existing JIS system did not have an IT-supported sequence check. At Eurofit, accuracy and quality are crucial. We wanted to increase accuracy without having to reprogram the system."
The requirements in the project
Highest possible coverage and transparency of the logistics processes of JIS series supply
Reliable design and implementation on time and on budget
Highly configurable standard solution with the highest possible integration into SAP ERP
Close, trusting cooperation with the SAP implementation partner
Following a selection process, the decision was made in January 2019 in favor of LOJISTIX from WSW Software*.
Highest order transparency - LOJISTIX as order hub between SAP ERP, SAP WM, EDI-Connector and MES
The IT project started in March 2019 with the first kick-off. Basic requirements were recorded, existing processes evaluated and a common approach adopted.
In order to meet the tight schedule while meeting all ongoing production challenges, the rapid prototyping implementation method was chosen. The implementation as well as the connection of LOJISTIX to SAP, the EDI connector and the MES started at the beginning of April 2019. LOJISTIX became the central "hub" for the control of the respective orders.
Project and Process Highlights:
- LOJISTIX verifies the completeness of the receipt of all messages from the OEM.
- LOJISTIX checks the completeness of all order components of a complete wheel and assigns them to the vehicle and installation position.
- LOJISTIX is connected to the PLC control Siemens SIMATIC S7.
- The system changeover took place in the middle of VW's series production.
Go-live from one day to the next - in the middle of series production
The system changeover took place within one day - in the middle of the daily three-shift changeover in production. Production downtime had to be avoided at all costs. This required not only the utmost care from the project team, but also a great deal of manpower. The go-live took place successfully as planned on July 1, 2019.
Wolfgang Salinger, Head of Digital Supply Chain at WSW Software: "The 'Winter Wheels Delivery' project ran in parallel to the implementation of LOJISTIX for series delivery. Both projects had to be integrated into the ongoing SAP implementation. We only had a few hours to go live. A situation that doesn't happen often."
Matthieu Garandeau:
The WSW project team did an excellent job throughout. Shortly after the go-live, we continued our deliveries to VW without interruption. With LOJISTIX, we now not only have improved continuous JIS processing, but also the level of transparency we expect. We have additional delivery security and are able to provide our customers with information at an unprecedented level at any time.
LOJISTIX - and on we go
Following the successful go-live at the Mosel plant, the Spanish Eurofit plant in Zaragoza, which supplies a VW plant in Spain with complete wheels, is now also being converted to LOJISTIX.
* LOJISTIX®
LOJISTIX from WSW Software is a self-sufficient solution that controls all JIS logistics processes: with complete EDI integration (inbound and outbound), control of final assembly, labeling, sequential packaging and delivery, sequential container formation and truck loading, dispatch processing based on production-synchronized call-offs and handling of logistically unmixed processes. The JIS solution integrates seamlessly into existing IT infrastructures and communicates directly with ERP, warehouse, production or PLC systems. Individual requirements for interfaces or JIS processes can be easily configured and modeled.
