High flexibility in the delivery process

AIS Automotive Interior Systems GmbH sequenced with LOJISTIX

AIS Automotive Interior Systems GmbH, based in Niedernberg, Bavaria, is a Tier 1 automotive supplier with over 1,650 employees at 14 locations in 6 countries. The owner-managed company develops and manufactures complex plastic modules for modern vehicle interiors, including center consoles, glove boxes and trunk linings.

In logistics in particular, AIS is focusing on automated processes and increasing digitalization with the aim of guaranteeing its customers permanent delivery capability. Due to a customer request from a well-known German OEM, the conversion of delivery at the Libice plant (Czech Republic) to sequencing (JIS) was on the agenda for 2022. The plastic trays for the driver and passenger side are picked there and delivered to the OEM's production plant. Around 1,800 components alone find their place in around 900 vehicles every day.

In addition to the pure JIS changeover, AIS had to implement additional requirements such as article checking, special truck loading or a range list. AIS started the project immediately. Implementing the project using the JIT component in SAP proved to be difficult.

A customer recommendation led AIS to LOJISTIX. After the system presentation, everyone involved agreed that the JIS solution from WSW Software would be an ideal fit. The project started with the first workshop in March 2023. The task: IT-supported sequencing of customer processes with delivery of the driver and passenger side storage modules to a hall. The assembly of pre-series vehicles was not planned. Changes arose in the course of the project: A second hall, including the pre-series vehicles, was to be supplied per hall.

All changes were implemented quickly and easily in LOJISTIX. Just four and a half months after the start of the project, AIS delivered the first fully automated sequenced containers to the customer as requested at the beginning of September 2023.

Article check during order processing

A special requirement of the OEM was to check whether the retrieved components on the driver and passenger side also matched. LOJISTIX was used accordingly.
and automatically checks after a delivery call-off whether the requested components in LOJISTIX are consistent and fit together.

Easier order picking through color scheme

Picking in the AIS warehouse is supported with LOJISTIX by a specially developed color scheme. An extended screen mask shows the picker how many components of which type have to be placed in which order and where in a bin. The individual positions in the bin are color-coded to match the sequence order of the components displayed on the monitor. The picker scans the corresponding component, prints the label and places it in the designated bin position. The color scheme makes daily picking easier and ensures that the components are assigned to the correct bin position more quickly.

Truck loading scheme manages Unloading sequence

The OEM wanted the components in the two warehouses to be unloaded in a specific order to ensure fast further processing of the trays. A sophisticated truck loading scheme was implemented in LOJISTIX for this purpose. It automatically manages the unloading of all containers in the corresponding hall and in the required sequence.

Range list ensures transparency

Which and how many components are in the warehouse and which are in transit? Is the stock running empty? A range of coverage list in LOJISTIX provides information on this. It ensures maximum transparency and is sent to the OEM on a daily basis.

The Head of Logistics at the AIS Group sums up: "Our decision in favor of a self-sufficient, SAP-independent JIS system was absolutely right. LOJISTIX is extremely flexible. All changes and requirements were implemented by WSW in the shortest possible time. The system is stable and provides us with excellent support in our daily work. The OEM praised us for the truck loading concept; only a few suppliers would be able to implement this so reliably. We really appreciate the technical and human expertise of the WSW team." Picking and delivery of the AIS components for another OEM also takes place at the Libice plant. At present, this is still handled using AIS's own logistics system, combined with some manual activities. AIS's aim is to drive forward digitalization here too and to manage the processes with LOJISTIX in the future.
